Scroll saw leaking oil

Just thought I would mention that I noticed my scroll/jig saw leaking oil yesterday. I had used a big screw in hook to hang it by the head loop from the ceiling in the garage and had noticed a puddle of fluid on the floor. I had thought it was water as the garage rook leaks but upon closer inspection I found it was oil from the saw's gear box. Has anyone else noticed their jig saw gear box leaking oil? I seem to remember that it also leaked a little bit even when store in the upright position. I will assume that the gasket between the cover and the body is probably the culprit here.

The jig saw is notorious for leaking!!!!!!!!!

Yes the gasket(and cover0 are the cause.

If you replace the gasket, make sure the vent hole is not plugged/obstructed.

IMHO there need only be 5 holes punched in the gasket(4 mounting screws and one vent). The center need not be cut out.

Thank you sir as always solid advise! If I remember when I refurbed the saw 2 years ago the gasket was shot so I think I was some automotive gasket material which usually works like a charm but I guess the saw needs that extra thickness provided by a soft gasket material. I will try and get some cork gasket material and make a new gasket.

Is it possible that the oil drained out the vent hole?

They almost always leak. I used a gasket from the auto parts store. Never thought to not cut out the center of the gasket. That was the hardest part to cut out. Wonder if the extra material would cause the gasket to pull on the screw holes when in use?
