I to do not know what caused this. I turned pens for 7-8 years with my 510 and was at Roosters Day craft show and there was a pen turner there and we got to talking about turning pens and the types of wood he was using and found out he was turning on a SS and exchanged information and I took him some wood I had extras to share and some pens I have turned. I still like my SS's and will continue to use mine but I have also gotten a Midi Lathe and turn on it also. I am using my SS mainly now for large turnings but small pens and bowls are still turned on the SS from time to time.
Also purchased the Beal Treem Mandrel and use it on both my midi lathe and SS.
Sorry anyone sees us as being that single focused or closed minded. I do own tools that are not SS but not getting rid of any SS. If someone thinks these are junk I will take them off your hands just let me know where to pick them up.

Didn't mean to mislead about the small lathe. I bought it because it was presented to me for a good price and I bit. Have used it for only one pen and switched back to the Power Pro. The Power Pro is light years ahead of the small lathe for turnings even small ones. Don't know if I will even keep the small one. It is a good tool but changing speeds requires moving the belt, not difficult but a great inconvenience compared to the PP or any Shopsmith.

[ATTACH]13130[/ATTACH]I also don't think anyone miss lead anyone, I to got the Midi lathe because of the price. If I can ever get the powerPro head then I think I will have the machine I want. Not in the cards right now. I know it is not the real heavy lathe for turning large items but that is also not in what I am looking to do. If I had the money and space I would love to have a very large and heavy lathe to learn to turn large items on but I love minatures and average size items to turn and the SS will do all of that. I also am part of other forums. I get something new from all of them and don't think just one forum will fill anyones total interest.
Lets make some shaving and share finished projects. These were turned on my 510

The advertisement said Mountain Mahogany, Makes great looking pens, I have not seen it come up very much on line. Pretty solid wood and easy to finish.
