Found a Mark V locally!
Hi All,
Yesterday I found a Model 500 in good condition (no rust & shiny paint) with a ton of accessories. The fellow was asking $1500, but after talking he said I could have the whole lot for $800. That seems like a good price to me. Am I right? It runs good and smooth.
Here is what is included: bandsaw, jigsaw, jointer, planer, shaper/fence/cutters, and ring master. Also he has all the manuals, 2 boxes of tools (extra lathe tools, band saw blades, jigsaw blades, drill bits, mortice attachment, squares, dividers, sanding disks, etc.)
No for the big question(s) 1. Will the accessories fit my Model 510? 2. Does the 500 come with extension tables like my 510 did? 3. How do I convince my wife this is a good thing?

Found Mark V
Yes, this is a good deal. All of the special purpose tools will work fine with your 510. The 500 comes with one extension table that fits in either end of the machine. I would jump on this deal.
Shopsmith Mark 4, Mark 7, Mark 5 shorty, planer, bandsaw, jointer, belt sander. Grizzly central dust collection 4" PVC trunk. Shopsmith Routing System stand-alone overhead pin router.

A good price given the accessories, especially if the motor doesn't need a lot of work.jon wrote:Hi All,

1) yes, the SPTs and such will all fit. The stuff you will have issues with are the shaper fence (couple ways to make that work), as well as sanding disks and saw blade arbors
2) if you mean the one that has tubes and goes in the SPT slot on the ends of the Mark V - it should have one. If you mean floating extension tables - no.
3) I convinced mine by building a crib and changing table for my then no-yet-born son. Then again, the kids is a pretty big cost compared to the tools, so you might want to go with soemthing else

Well, I went ahead and purchased the Model 500. Attached are some pics. Included were: bandsaw, jigsaw, jointer, planer, ringmaster, shaper fence and tools, 2 sets of lathe tools, a couple of Stanley hand planes, spare blades, sanding disks, etc. To my surprise, I also got a spare AO Smith, 1 1/8 Hp motor! All-in-all, quite a selection of stuff.

Great job, I thought I did good on the 520 and the saw train but you really scored, great job and have fun cleaning (doesn't look like it needs it) and trying all the new toys.

Jon, nice find and the only deal better than the SS is this forum! This is the best educational deal ever. And it is a lot of fun.

Hi All,
Dave is right, this forum is the best deal I have found! That said once again I must ask for help and tap into the storehouse of knowledge. When digging through my boxes of stuff, I found a ShopSmith tool sharpener. It is a small table top grinder. I didn't know ShopSmith sold anything like that. I have attached a photo for everyone to look at. Have any of you ever seen anything like this?
Thanks,
Jon
