(Not sure this was the right category, but none really fit)
I have a Delta 22-540 12" planer. Bought it used at a garage sale. It works but the blades were nicked on one end. Good news is that the blades are the reversible type and had never been turned around. Bad news is that the blade setting gauge is long gone.
I know I can buy a planer pal for about $30 or more, depending on the source, but does anyone have any ideas that don't cost money, or at least costs a lot less? I spend all my money on that lumber rack! (Well, OK, I admit it, I'm just CHEAP!)

Thanks, Ed, for the link. That's the kind of info I need. Unfortunately, they are currently out of stock and the shipping on an $8.18 item is $8.99. It's only $7.49 from Delta (Porter Cable) but $10.50 for shipping. Might as well go on ebay and buy the mini planer pal for $19.95. But I'd like to do this now, not wait a week for a tool.
I was hoping someone had creatively solved such a problem before. If I'm seeing things right, the Delta has a 3" roller the blades are mounted in. A setting gauge should reflect that 3" diameter with a provision to set the blade 0.001" above the diameter. Does that sound about right? Anyone got any ideas?

Are you sure there isn't a Dewalt/Delta/Porter Cable repair center near you?
We have one in our town and I don't remember ever paying a shipping charge. It usually takes about week for the part to come in.
Go to Delta site and check for repair locations.

I have the same planer. I use "Planer pals" I done three or four blade changes over the years. They work a thousand times better then the jig provided by delta.
A guy has them on the "Bay" for twenty bucks/free shipping (not me).

Yeah, this was the way I decided to go. The planer will just have to wait a few days before I can set the blades and start making lumber.
I have several hundred feet of walnut, cherry and oak to clean up so I figure I'll get my money's worth out of this thing.
