Set Screw on Speed Changer

I've just finished rebuilding the headstock on my Dad's 1968-ish Goldie. As luck would have it, I'm missing only one part: the set screw from the speed changer. This is the 3/32" hex screw that Nick always has trouble finding on the sawdust sessions.

I took the dial down to my local home improvement store (we don't have a real hardware store here) and found a 10-32 x 1/4" hex set screw. It just isn't quite right though. My thought is that 1/4" isn't long enough to hold the threads and snug up to the detent on the speed changer post. Does anyone know the dimensions of that set screw?

Also, I'm concerned too that the gear on the back of the speed changer has too much wear to actually be useful. If I go ahead and replace this part, will it come with the set screw, or does that have to be purchased separately?

My Goldie manual says 10-24 x 1/4 aka 3/16-24 x 1/4.

Don does a great job rebuilding the speed control knobs and will provide a set screw at a nominal fee. I highly recommend him.

He's not the only one. While stripping my Greenie down for the first time I had no luck at all finding that set screw. Then I shone a penlight into the gap between the dial and the headstock, which lit it enough to get the hex key in the socket first try.

I second Rob's suggestion. Get it rebuilt! Better than a 'new' one.
