Did you see Shopsmith and Face Book?

Shopsmith has this written on their Face Book page. Hmmmmmm....... New sandpaper line??????

"We're getting to the final stages of launching the new ShopSmith items at a big box hardware store"

Just what firms qualify as big box hardware stores?(other than Lowes)

I do not think HD will go there.

Menards(and similar) are not hw oriented.

So we wait and watch! Like the Pxx paper!:D oh! that is what this is about!

My guess it's Lowe's because Shopsmith "Likes" Lowe's on their Facebook page.

I don't know how others may feel about this, but I like it! Lowe's, for me is extremely convenient and I have always preferred it over HD. Since Shopsmith no longer has the Dayton store, it would be nice to obtain SS materials somewhere such as Lowe's. Further, I hope the advertised demos keep going. Just sticking a machine on the floor without someone to explain the operations, I believe, would result in another failed attempt as what happened a few years ago. Just my observations.

I did not see any mention of Shopsmith coming to "Lowes" only to a big box (which may not be Lowes). Furthermore, all I saw mentioned was abrasives - no mention of equipment.

I hope I am just being too skeptical - I have a wide open credit line at Lowes.

If they wanted to expand on the venture they could offer products that would also interest non-shopsmith users. The safety push blocks and sticks comes to mind. Shop apron. Lathe turning tools (Branded Shopsmith)
I think the sandpaper idea is kinda cool. Gets the Shopsmith brand name out to the general public. You can find people all day long who don't care for the Mark V but hard press to find anyone who will not say it's a well built tool.

I would not look forward to attempting a restoration of a 20+ year old piece of equipment built with any other name than Shopsmith(or Magna)! Now that says 2 different things.

1) Their Customer Service supports older equipment.

2) Much of the 'current' models are little different from much older ones.

Unfortunately 'well made' and $$$$$ go hand in hand.

And IMHO many of those older 'designs' are as good or better than most newer ones. Not as snazzy perhaps, but just plain gets the job done design.

I really hope Menards gets the deal. My Menards is a quality store with very knowledgable people working there.

My local Lowes is pretty amateur and second rate to the local Menards.

Home Depot killed themselves here. They thought they could speak Spanish and make old Germans spend money there. They learned otherwise. The store lost so much money, they closed it and left town after a couple of years. The Mexicans left town with them.

I wonder if, in addition, to generic sized belts and discs for random orbit sanders, the Lowe's offering will include 12 inch self adhesive sanding discs. That would be cool.
