Dado question

Post by kenrich »

I recently bought a 1990 510 that I upgraded to the 520 profence.
It was missing the dado table insert and arbor, but included was a SS wobble dado blade.
I ordered the SS insert and arbor and recently received them.
When I set up the saw for the dado cut I could only get 1/2" to 7/16" depth of cut without the blade teeth contacting the table insert. Whe I removed the insert the blade would project about an 11/4" above the table and still clear everything below the table.
I have three questions:
1. Is it because of the wobble blade that I only get 7/16" depth of cut?
2. I have order a 6" stacked dado and will I greater depth with it?
3. Has any one elongated the slot in the table insert, if so how?

Ken
I have the SS dado set but I have never tried to cut a dado greater than about 3/8 of an inch. It may be a limitation due to the designs of the wobble dado. (I don't like 'em) I can get a deeper dado with the standard SS dado but I make successive passes to get there. Don't bite off more than the dado can chew. A dado set has to remove a LOT more stock than a saw blade so slow down the feed rate and if possible slow the blade speed down to get a bit more torque.

This does not make sense. The SS(Magna) wobble blade is 8" The slot is 7 1/2" long. The stuff underneath should interfere way before the blade reaches the end(s) of the slot.

Now, is the blade centered(side to side) in the slot?

How wide a dado are you attempting?

Is the blade assembled correctly?(no wobble when the index marks align)

Where on the insert is the blade hitting?

A long shot, but do you have the dado insert, or the molder insert?

The insert may be the problem, the slot in mine is only 4 1/4" long.
I order the dado insert when I ordered the dado arbor, but SS may have sent the incorrect one.

Thanks all for your help. These forms are a great resource.

I double checked my order, I order the dado insert and the packing list said SS shipped the dado insert. According to the pics on the SS site I have a molder insert.

Again thanks for your help, hope I do the same some day.
