10ER speed changer needs pulley

I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me if I ask something out of line...

I recently inherited a 10ER from a neighbor, and finally got my hands on a manual that helped me understand my 10ER has a speed changer... minus the pulley...

I've seen various mentions of speed changer repair, but can anyone point me to a source for a replacement pulley?

Your best bet for hassle free solution would be to contact Skip Campbell - he runs the shopsmith 10er yahoo group. Since 10er parts aren't available from shopsmith anymore, he can probably either set you up, or help you know what to look for on ebay or another source.

I don't know if it is an option, but you might revisit where you inherited the machine from to see if the pulley is in a 'box'. Users sometime remove the two belts and the special speed changer pulley and install one belt between the motor and headstock when they are looking for a little more power to the quill (such as ripping heavy stock). The pulley with floating center hub are rare.

I would suggest that you join the yahoo 10erusers group as there are a number of folks there in addition to Skip that are very helpful. If you cannot find the pulley, you might get lucky and one of them may have one they can part with.

If you go to this site Jeff has sleeved several several pulleys for me and I do believe he has some pulleys by themselves you could probably pick up. He is on the ER site with us and he specializes in machine work. His work is great and I would trust him with fixing or repairing any of my parts. Rob - I appreciate your suggestion on revisiting the tool's former home. As it turns out, I'm the de facto caretaker of the place while the family is selling it, so have been back numerous times. Sadly, it's possible that during the house cleanout that some of the SS's parts were inadvertently tossed out... I'll definitely try the Yahoo group as well.

Sorry to hear JP. The speed changer's casting have been known to fail at one of the ears in the casting. These broken speed changers can be a source for the pulley if they cannot/won't repair the ear. You might get lucky with the Yahoo group. On the down side, I have seen the pulleys sell for $75 by themselves.
