Dave,
Did he completely restore that lathe or did you do it for him? I know how talented you are with the SS's so I kind of figured you did it. In any event it looks factory new and is a great restore for sure. I would kill for a little metal lathe like that and I always have my eye out for them around my area.

I did the headstock many years ago. Rusteoleon Hammered paint baked at 200 degrees for 2 hours in a converted stove oven. I use this Shopsmith for cleaning, sanding and polishing way and bench tubes for many years now. I have gone to a 5/8" coupler with the idler shaft directly connected. No metal chuck, more accuracy. Jeff got the lathe parts with one of his Shopsmith buys and offered it to me. Like Christmas time for me when I received the package.

If interested in a similar setup, contact me and I can give measurements and offer solutions for making this type of equipment. These are the fun times for me playing with equipment not made by Shopsmith being used on the Shopsmith.

I intend to make a shorty assembly table. I like using the SS bases on casters for the assembly tables cause they are sturdy, mobile,table height is adjustable and the unit can be moved to the center of the shop so you can work all the way around the table. When not in use it can be moved out of the way. These can also be used for infeed/outfeed tables ( Farmers idea ) or just small work benches.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting this!

I have a similar system that I use and had been thinking I should post it sometime but, well, it just never happened. This method has come in very handy for me over the years and I would think a lot more "small shop" users would do well making one of these.

I know this is a little late but I have had periods where I'm not on the site and then when I return there are way to many "new" posts for me to look at so I dump them. In this case this is one I missed by doing that.

Good that it resurfaces so more people get to see it.

Love this thread, lots of clever ideas. I posted this one a while ago but I think I'll put a copy here too. I use extra SS extension tables and telescoping legs as an adjustable outfeed table system on my Craftsman table saw.
