If you use your Lowe's card you get either a 5% discount or six months same as cash. I was lucky and my son was with me that is active military and Lowe's allowed me to get the 10% discount. One note, you cannot add the 10% + 5% discounts, but you can add 10% discount with six month same as cash.

I bought mine last Sunday and received a call yesterday that I can pickup the head and starter package today. :D I live 48 miles south of Shopsmith and am going to pick up today. Bad news is the band saw won't be available until end of July and the dust collector the end of August. Good news is Shopsmith is going to ship those to me for free, good customer support.

If anyone has advice for the new guy, I'm listening. I am going to setup shop in my basement. Until my dust collector arrives what are my options? Thanks.

Suggested reading!:) You can skip #1, #2 if you purchased a Mark 7.

Saw Mike Young demonstrate the Power Pro yesterday at Lowes in Blaine, MN. Mike is a character, an old fashioned horse trader and heat merchant. Some people respond well to that type of character but I don't. He does know his stuff and it was great to actually see the machine in person. Well worth a visit if you're in the area today!

A standard 2" shopvac hose will fit the SS dust collector port.

I was kinda the same way - a very nice guy, but the state fair style sales pitch really turns me off in general, regardless of the product. Once I was the only one there, he was a wealth of knowledge.

Ya need to consider the difference in his 'audience'. The state fair approach is what works best with a crowd that contains folks unfamiliar with the 'product'. One on one works better with those 'in the know'.

I do hope the state fair approach brings some new folks into the fold!

I hope the state fair approach does not discourage any of the 'in the know' folks!

No judgement intended. Just stating that in general that type of sales pitch turns me off, not on, to a product. I also know that for me, I am more into provable stuff than 'wow' demos.

I emailed Mike, and he said he would send me one since I didn't get mine when I bought my headstock :)
