iaokie requesting help

iaokie posted this on the newowner thread. I anticipate this will start a lengthy discussion, so I have taken the liberty of reposting it here in a new thread.

Hi ya'll new to shop smith and this site
Live in Oklahoma , 50 ish havent done any woodworking since school over 43 years now. Have been welding for the past 37 years... man I'm feeling older as I type ! Currently welding aircraft parts...Will have many questions but i'll search the forum first to find answers if I can .... so here goes
Thought I found a good deal on a Mark VII but now realize parts are hard to find I ordered a owners manual because I know nothing about this machine or how to use it correctly. Its been sitting in a shop for probably 20 years The motor runs and sounds good but belts are very hard and will not turn blade so I released drive belt to test run motor.Cam controller is worn and was removed by previous owner need one or some thing that will replace it Don't know if i can use it for now with out this controller Heavy rust on way bars ? so is this worth restoring and be able to use it or should I get out now before investing more time and money

The plastic cam is very hard to come by, as are most Mark VII parts. If you need parts you can let me know.

Yes will need cam for sure not sure about anything else yet
Will start to dismantle,clean and check after the manual comes in
a week or so

Where in OK are you locate? There was a MKVII at Owasso on craigslist for 295 OBO and said the speed control did not work so knew the cam was bad. Not sure if you picked that on up or not. I am in Tulsa and have a MKVII in pretty good shape I am getting ready to clean it up and get it working. Still have one more ER to finish for a local person that is wanting it then I will have time to do the MKVII next. IF you are close just give me a shout.

How pray tell is a model 10 manual going to help him with a Mark VII?

Yes that was the one I bought
Has a 4" Magna jointer,chisels about 5 saw blades and a dozen or so fittings
Should be interesting

I'm confused - did you buy a 10er or a mark VII?

Just to try with the drive belt off the motor goes in forward and reverse.Didn't let it run but a few seconds,it does have an old Part # Poly V-Belt
