Mark V Cover opinions

Post by jmoore65 »

My Mark V lives in my carport - under a layer of Boeshield.

I noticed that ShopSmith has a treated cloth cover that is water resistant but breathable - thus (hopefully) not collecting rust causing moisture underneath it.

Anyone have any experience on using this (or similar) cover? It seems to be a great way to keep misc dust/dirt/cat hair off my Mark V.

Thanks,

Jim

I do have a cover that I use when the machine is not used. I have been told not to wash it when it becomes dirty, just to wipe it down with a damp cloth. It does a good jod and I recommend it.

I've had my cover for 18 + years now, works great.

I believe that it has saved my machine from rust. As my uncovered tools have some rust on them but my coved ones don't.

Me too (though I have a small bottle as well). That's where the layer came from :) Sorry for the confusion.

My shop is in a 12 X 28 wooden building on my lot and mostly air tight with the exception of a vent above the doorway. It is mostly immune from moisture however some does get in as I have gotten some rust on some metal parts(not the SS Items) but I do use the SS covers on all my SS SPT's as well as my 520 and they stay rust free as well as dust not settling on them. I do my waxing and other preventive maintenance, but I am convinced that the covers do their job in protecting them. Right now I noticed that the covers are all on sale. IMHO I feel that for the small investment of the covers compared to the cost of all the equipment it is worth the expense.
