planer key

I have a planer pro that I purchased used. It did not come with a key. I have tried to order one from Shopsmith but they have none in stock and a shipment date may never be:rolleyes: . I am hoping that someone can take a picture with measurements so that I can "create" a key.

I have a ProPlaner and would gladly provide a picture of what you need but I do not recognize your reference to a "key".

Are you referring to the device that is used to raise and lower the table.

I believe the "key" is the L-shaped safety device designed to prevent powering the machine on. It's located on the right of the machine.

Yes BPR the safety key is what I need the planer will not start without it.

You should be able to fabricate one from a piece of 1/4" dowel that has been drilled to accept a short section cut from a nail. I have repaired keys that have had the nub sheared off. I found a nail about the same diameter as the nub, cut it, drilled a hole in the key to accept it and epoxied the nail in the hole.

Depending on your requirement for multi-layered safety in the shop, (ie: kids present, etc.) you may want to just take the switch apart and remove the little piece of plastic that the key moves. Then the planer will start without the key.
