Why is it inappropriate to look at the works of others, make improvements/modifications and then release a new version of the original and make money doing so.
Where would we be today if no one advanced the design of the original horseless carriage?
Where would we be today if no one advanced the design of the original telephone?
Where would we be today if no one advanced the design of the original Brownie or the original Polaroid?
How is any of this different than what Bill Gates does?

Listen guys its true I have not posted here mutch but have been on the forum for a year or so when I bought a mark v.
And yes I did post only a few here of late and why. Not that I have been waiting to jump I new nothing about this yesterday just think its wrong to happen this way you can all have your own slant on it also and we can all think what we like. I came on this forum to say I think SS is wrong thats it.
I am in no way connected with Dino or Eurekazone just a happy customer but think they are the best since sliced breat and if this is all legal and it may take years to find out who is right or wrong. In any case I'm not here to make a problem if you see it that way tough. So think what you want of me its just my first feeling of what has come up.

Bigjohn1, this isn't a contest and I take no position on who is wrong or right, but there are already several similar products on the market, including the EZ, the Festool track saw (I don't know which came first), and the Dewalt (which I think came after both EZ and Festool). If EZ thinks TrueTrac has infringed their patents, they will take care of it I'm sure.bigjohn1 wrote:Dusty Its just so close to the EZ its not funny and we don't know if its better yet or even close. But you've got to admit, sitting in the shadows for three months on this forum and then making your first three posts as a series of unprovoked attacks on a new product is a rather peculiar choice of how to introduce your presence, make friends and influence people.
Sorry about that Rob your right I never did fill that stuff in not because I'm hidding like you may think and have been around longer then that. Not sure what you mean by red flags. I do pop in here once and a while to see whats new and going on sorry if I never said mutch then. I live in Canada and am not afraid to tell others who I am and how I feel about some things like I see you are also. If you think this is an attack what can I say my feeling is its wrong so why not voice it. If it sells it sells good for it.robinson46176 wrote:Nobody else going to ask? OK, I will. What's the beef?
When I see that someone without even a profile location that has been on here about 3 months without posting jumps on in attack mode and makes 3 hostile post in a row (so far the only 3 post) I have to wonder why...
I'm sure many of us see a bunch of red flags popping up.
Maybe it is not as it seems but????
.
I'm kind of leery to post since it would be my first after all the above stuff, but the email perked my interest and I remembered ShopSmith had a forum thing, figured I would see what other info there was on this system. Definitely surprised to find a forum with 5 pages a day after the email, but I poked around online looking at all the other systems to see what everyone was arguing about.
The EZ stuff looks good, and I had never heard of it before, but just from looking at the pictures of it, it seems more similar to the Festool/DeWalt kind than the new one is to the EZ...the EZ has a single "hump" (nicely phrased above) just like the one from the bigger companies.
Also, was the table thing included in the packages? I didn't see anything on it, but one of those would fit in my garage like a glove.

Yes ok it may look like that maybe I am a little hard on it and have not posted very mutch here thats true because I know the shopsmith pretty good from a young man and finally bought one and think its so cool.
But with this I just think right or wrong that SS made a mistake I can understand many reasons why but that don't make it right.
Yes there are other track saws out there with there own tracks to go with there saw. Not ones that ride on the track with a saw base that fits the saw and connectors that work the same way. Then they demo it at a show and use the EZ smart table from Eurekazone I guess they will make that next. If you had info on where this came from you maybe upset also but not being a EZ owner you have no idea its not just a track its a system. true track may turn into something I don't know right now its all they make or it is there first item from what I hear. And yes they may end up with a good system also down the road. All I can tell you with some faults at Eurekazone its true they have some work to do about somethings but Dino this man is a friggin genius hands down with help from others by his side.

Well put there fjimpfjimp wrote:I admire anyone who introduces a new product especially if it promotes a better or safer way to work. I like the looks of this new product yet will remain loyal to the E Z product. I find I am clumsy at best and the clamps that slide into the ends (underneath the extrusions) are highly valuable to me. I also like Dino's table idea. In that I own his entire system there is no gain for me to invest in the newest product on the market. I do take my hat off to Shopsmith for filling a avoid with an American made product. Good luck gentlemen. Fjimp

I have a Eurekazone track and smart table that I use to break down sheet goods and it does a pretty good job IF you understand the shortcomings (kinda like the Shopsmith). I do not own Dino's complete system; just the track, smart base, and smart table. I will say that it makes breaking down sheet goods MUCH easier.
There are some issues with the Eurekazone track system that I have though. The first thing I don't like is that there is some play between the smart base and the track. On my setup this amonted to about .015. That seemed excessive to me so I called Dino when I first got it to discuss this. He basically told me that it was not an issue because when you cut you will tend to "push" the saw one way or the other and it will "ride against" that side of the track and give you a straight cut. I still wish the fit was better.
Another thing is that you have to position the track on your keeper piece or the cut line is not at the anti-chip edge and you would have to compensate for the kerf width of the saw blade. This makes setting the track a little more challenging.
The last thing is that I have yet to find a blade on my circular saw that gives me the same quality of cut that I get from my Forrest Woodworker II blade. I find that my circular saw cuts may not have chip out but they are not glue joint ready either.
Even with the shortcomings, I do not regret my Eurekazone purchase and would do it again in a heartbeat. I can't handle full sheets on the table saw and really don't want to. My current procedure is that I break down the sheet goods with the track saw leaving a little extra. I then take the rough sized pieces to the table saw for the final cut. This works for me and I am happy with it.

Patent Infringement - I don't think so.

You are absolutely correct. There are several track systems available and the best is probably that by Festool but that is because the Festool track system is just that "a system". The circular saw and the track were designed to work in conjunction with one another.
The rest are applications of a technique.
I use a piece of aluminum and two clamps.
But then there is bigjohn1 who seems to be down on Shopsmith for marketing the True-Trac. I don't know why he is bashing Shopsmith. All Shopsmith is doing is selling the True-Tracas a companion tool.
Is there a patent infringement? I don't know but if there is that battle will likely be fought in court. If there is, it will involve more than just a couple companies. There is more than one or two track systems out there to chose from.
I would suggest that y'all go read the writings of bigjohn1. Bigjohn - I would suggest that you could best support EZ Track by doing a detailed comparison of EZ Track to Tru-Track complete with photographic evidence of your findings. When you do this, please post it on the EZ Track website.
