Anyone can do it!

Post by tfeeken »

I just got done putting the headstock back on my SS Mark V. The headstock locks were jamed up and I don't know what kind of other things I was going find so I just kept putting it off. I watched the Sawdust Sessions and read few posts to work up the nerv, so today I went for it! I was able to get the head off and take it apart with no problems. I did find bad treads on the locking shaft but was able to get the locks working again. I did the lube job and inspected all. waxed the tubes and put the head back as well.
I was amazed at how well it went and how good I felt as I put it in the boring possition.I checked it out then and stood back and thought, that was a breez!
To SS and this form,,, THANK YOU!
The point that I would like to make here is, If I can do it so can anyone!
;) :)

Thats good to hear. I've been short on time, but I know the 2 I've got are messed up. The greenie locks kind of weird and the bolt looks bent to me as well. The 88 feels like it tightens, but does not unless you give it a little more umpgh.
Have not wanted to take them apart until I have the pony and the time. Which sawdust session was that?

Don't even start if you are short of time. The surest way to get yourself into a pickle is to rush it. If you just take your time, when you are all done you are certain to say "What was Dusty talking about. That was a piece of cake".

Go ahead - rush it. Just don't do it where someone can hear.
