band saw top wheel rubber

Here's my question: When I turn on the band saw, whether the blade is tight or loose, the rubber on the top wheel comes off.

How do I keep this from happening? Suggestions? Thank you.

Well ya could reglue in back on or replace it with a new one. What color is your present one?

As long as the rubber is in good condition, use contact cement.

I had problems with the contact cement forming globs/spots under the tire. I switched to 3M 77 (spray on contact glue) many years ago. I use a dowel under the tire and spray behind the dowel as I rotate it around the wheel. This keeps the tire centered on the wheel too.

I also use belt conditioner on each tire after I mount them and once/twice a year there after to keep the tires from cracking.

If the tire is coming off that easily, it may well be stretched. It should fit snugly onto the hub. The adhesive is sorta backup, it shouldn't be the primary means for holding the tire onto the wheel.

Foxtrapper has it right about those rubber tires. They need to be stretched onto the bandsaw wheels, otherwise they'll peel right off when you tension the bandsaw blade and adhesive likely won't fix the problem. Regarding tension, if you apply too much tension to the bandsaw blade, the tire will come off the wheel. You shouldn't have a problem with tension because of the Shopsmith tensioning system unless you are using one of those blades that is shorter than the 72" Shopsmith blades.
