Screws

I've been using McFeely square drive screws for a year or so for general purpose and Kreg screws for joinery for a bit longer, also picked up some at Woodcraft when I needed some in a hurry and they had the size I needed.

They seem expensive up front, but typically cheaper when buying in bulk quantities compared to the same quantity junk that the box stores sell. I now keep a selection of common sizes that I use on hand.

I also tend to recycle them compared to tossing phillips screws when I tear apart a temporary project/jig, saving even more. I've not had any break yet and no heads stripped either.

Most of my use is limited mainly to #6 to #10 slotted brass screws where I find the look to be important. I have yet to have to modify a screwdriver bit to fit.

My apologies for falling off the face of the earth the last couple of days. Live is a bit uncertain this week at our house. My wife has had two skin cancers removed in the last week and 1/2. The first went very well. The second became badly infected and has kept us on our toes. My shoulder surgery Friday a week ago was a total failure and I am still trying to adapt to being a one armed guy. As to the driver set. It has been a long time since I used that set. I do remember it was smaller than yours. I spent an hour looking for it before I took my wife to the clinic again this afternoon and believe it must be in a box someplace with a hand full of other missing items I can't find. Back in the days when I was more of a purest woodworker, an obsessions with old traditions and hand tools I forked out the money for this set of wood handled screw drivers designed for traditional slotted wood screws. Special tip grinds, oval handles, flats for additional leverage and now pretty much unused.

Oh yes the good old days.
