Jointer, will it work?

Post by calstar »

I have a chance to pick up a model 4e jointer(serial #8280) in very good shape. The seller said it was from a 10ER SS, and it wouldn't work with the MarkV(he recently sold his 10ER and MarkV, for some reason this is all he has left). Is he right, this jointer is for a 10e and won't work on my MarkV?

thanks,

Brian

The 10ER 4E joiner will not attach to the Mark V. No legs on this joiner. This joiner requires an attachment kit (vary rare) to fit the 10ER along with pulleys and a belt. A picture of all the parts available with the 4E joiner would be helpful.

I am not sure when they stopped making the 4E jointer. It could be possible that the later 4E models had the holes for the mounting posts. I know the early Mark V jointers have holes for 10ER mounting adapter plate.

So you might look to see if it has holes in the castings to accept 1-1/4" diameter mounting tubes. These can be acquired from Shopsmith or Feeeebay.
