The table is definitely a 500, steel table rather than aluminum. This page may also be informative - http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/faq/markv.htm The Poly V belt was first put into headstocks in 1860 to 1963.
I'm pretty sure guys that still run a 500 will also comment here to tell you more about the headstock, rip fence and quill bearings.

1860??????????????:D If it says 'Magna American' It is a Poly-V.

I 'don't' see some very important parts.

There is no rip fence and the lower saw guard is missing. I will hunt them down on fee-bay. Various screws are missing. I will take one of the remaining screws (from the legs) and try to match them up at Sears. Also a caster is missing. I will disassemble the whole caster system, clean lube and remount. For now I will work on the base. Cleaning up the way bars and carriage. Quick question is what color paint do I use on the leg stands? It is not a smooth finish but a wrinlkey one.

I recommend you get very familiar with the exploded parts drawings to ascertain what may be 'missing'.

The leg screw is 1/4-20 x 1" and is either an oval head or flat head or button head.

I do not see the screw and nut etc. which clamp the idler bearing in the casting.

As usual all of you are very helpful. I stocked up on mineral spirits, brass brush, 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper, JPW, scotchbrite, 3 in 1 oil. All I have to do is add elbow grease.....Does anyone know which gray paint to use to touch up the SS?

Yep. He wanted to get rid of a shopsmith for free. All I had to do was show up and take it away. It doesn't get much better than that! By the pics you can see I have my work cut out for me. So far I have determined that it is 1 1/8 hp motor which is partially disassembled. SN 71892 (I guess 1980) Does anyone know if it has a one bearing quill? I would like to upgrade to a 2 bearing and go to a poly v belt as well. Any suggestions on what I should do first? Any help would be appreciated...

Here's a link to a 2 bearing quill on Ebay, I have an early 84 and have already done the upgrade or i would just buy it. It's a great price.

If by 'it' you mean the one just acquired, it very very likely does not have a two bearing quill.

The e-bay item is quite reasonable today, but it will most likely jump in price before it closes.

I would not be overly concerned with acquiring a two bearing quill unless you were having problems with the original.
