That's quite the ingenious drum sander you found. I'm sure there is a Shopsmith connection to it. As Dave mentioned, that drum is identical to the design in the Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone book.

One thing you might consider is to add a sheet of formica/laminate to the surface of the table so that feeding stock through the sander be easier, especially after waxing the surface.

I was looking at the surface an noticed that the top ply was lifting, and that very thought occured to me. I was going to put some UHMW tape on the slides, and I believe they have a similar product in a shoot form. If not, formica is as good a solution as any. I am taking it all apart for deep cleaning and some painting/finishing this weekend coming, and I hope to have it up by next week.

I'd think too slick might not be wise without some mechanism to control feed thru - too thin of removal & ZING off the piece goes across the room. Maybe a rubberized surface on the outfeed?
