You could also turn a nice ring from... Danged if I can pull up the name of it right now...

That high quality plywood that is made of many thin layers... and make the hole a snug press fit over the end of the sleeve.
Then you could say "what repair?" That is a design improvement...
Then again I would probably just use a number of wraps of electrical tape, stretching each layer as I wound it on but not stretching the last two layers.
I am also hoarding a few couplers (among other things).
