Your photos seem to suggest that the setscrew hits the edge of the recess and that is pushing it out of the tailstock. If that's the case, since the eccentric is aluminum, you likely could mount it in a chuck and use a parting tool to widen that recess sufficiently to allow the set screw to seat without pushing it out of the tailstock.

Holsgo did a tailstock modification where he mated a delta lathe tailstock to the SS. That is what I would like. I could not find the thread.

That is a cool tailstock. I want to try something like that some day.
