Yep I signed off and then later signed back on and looked at the thread and sure enough the picture was there, Magic!

On to the question on resolution.

My answer and one I find in most articles on the subject is to go to the highest resolution you can afford.

I know I often see the pixels in screens below 1600X900.
I also see flicker in CRT's and LCD screens with a refresh rate lower than 70hz. I have never seen flicker in a LED screen.

I love the new IMAC, some of the Power Books and the new AirBooks because of their high res screens. To match their resolution on a 24 inch screen it would cost me $1000 or more.

I think this is often why people complain Apple products cost so much more than PC's they never consider cost of a PC screen of equal or better resolution.

The mag Laptop recommends that no one buy a 15.6 or bigger screen on a laptop without 1920x1080 resolution.

My 'current' puter has a 1366 x 768 screen, but my previous one was 1920 x 1200. Both are lap-tops. Both are '15.6"'. I developed stick pointer problems with the 'better' one but had to have an operable one in a hurry, hence the 'current' one. I have yet to get used to the narrower field of view.

IMHO the native resolution of an lcd or led screen is the only way to fly.

I have a pair of HP2011X s. I don't know if they are considered special but I like them except that the resolution is fixed. No Options. What I see is what I get.

I have these because I had inside information about a one time good deal. At least I thought it was a good deal. It was a model close out deal in an over stocked outlet.

Apparently the video 'card' only supports that single resolution.

No, it is the monitor. I had other monitors before I bought these flat screens and with those monitors I had a wide assortment of resolution settings.

No complaint though. I have a good quality display and the price was right.

OK! External monitor! The Monitor plug has jumpers that define(to the video adapter) the display modes the monitor is capable of supporting. That capability is passed by the adapter to the OS(Windows) so only the available modes(resolution) are visible to the 'user' in Control Panel.

Newer monitors/video controllers may use a different scheme.
