When I was new to Shopsmith, I bought some 10" blades that were 5/8" arbor holes. Took them to a local tool shop that also provided sharpening. It cost me $20 per blade to have the arbor holes enlarged to 1 1/4". The folks thought I was stupid to have the holes enlarged, but they work very well. And, I'm happy I had it done.

I accidentally purchased a blade with a 5/8" hole and arbor. The comparison between stability of the two convinced me in a hurry to give the 5/8" away. Your decision was a good one. Jim

Jim, was the 5/8" arbor you used the 5/8" Shopsmith saw blade arbor or was it more like a motor arbor/dado arbor? I ask because the Shopsmith 5/8" saw blade arbor and the Shopsmith 1-1/4" saw blade arbor are close (if not exact) to the same outside diameter of 1-7/8". That is both blades are supported to the same radius. I would expect similar performance for the same blade from both arbors.

Unfortunately we are talking about 5 years ago and my memory is unclear. I suspect it must have been the motor/dado arbor as it was smaller and highly unimpressive to use. It did teach me an important lesson which you have added too thank you, Jim

Good to see them go to good homes and get some use.
