I thought Shopsmith came up with a new hydraulic cylinder for the PowerPro. Anyone know?

Yes, the gas cylinder that is used on the PowerPro is heavier duty. This was needed due to the extra weight. I understand that the new cylinder attaches differently as well. That may mean that they are not interchangeable.

Are you a bleeder? That is, if you get a laceration or puncture wound such as one could get from reaching down low into a dark space and encountering a few carbide saw teeth, does the blood flow clot or stop quickly? This could be a consideration.
As for the other small parts and tools, and more space in the back, consider how it will be to access those things while bending down (avoiding the rail system and other sharp-edged stuff, or workpieces) or (possibly) worse kneeling, and probably holding a flashlight. From personal experience I really enjoyed the 100% dustproof cabinet I built for mine, but I really hate digging in there for small stuff on those days when my back or knees are not happy.

Yes and yes. SS did come up with a new cylinder for the Lift Assist specifically to be used on the Power Pro (the PowerPro LiftAssist)
