I keep all sorts of hardware that comes to me from all sorts of places. This is one of my human frailties. Unfortunately, I have a lot of that stuff that I ust never think about when I could use it.

These will be slightly different. I am frequently reminded that there must be a better way to secure the miter bar in some of my jigs.

Does anyone here on the forum utilize one of these in a Shopsmith miter slot.

If so, would you please measure the thickness of the miter bar and give me that dimension. These ball plungers would have to be very small to work here.

A small ball bearing and a spring installed in a hardwood runner just might work as well.

Yes BUT: The 'ball plungers' have two(at least) advantages - The ball is captive, and the tension adjustable(limited range).

Hi Dusty,

I have one and use it with my Shopsmith and I can report that it works great in the Shopsmith miter slot. The miter bar width is .720 (not including the ball plungers, which can be completely retracted within the miter bar) and it is .348 deep although that depth measurement is a bit misleading/irrelevant because there are depth adjusters/levelers (thumb screws really) on both ends of the miter bar.

The ball plungers themselves are indeed quite small. I did not measure their length because I would have to take one completely out but I did measure the diameter of the tapped hole into which the ball plunger fits. That hole appears to be only 5/32nds in diameter.

Why don't you just turn off your TV or change to a sports channel.
