They be flipped, hence the question.

I do not know what is de rigor pertaining to motors. Sortsa like what is a left/right handed door.:)
Huh? Do I have a mistake in my diagrams?

Error? Which one?;)

Blue today or diagrams of yesteryear?:D

'Depends upon point of view'. The motor's yesteryear, the user's today.:)

Yup, I screwed that one up good and did not even see it. Sitting here, I don't know. I'll go to the shop, when it is light out, and verify what is what. I think the notes on the sketches are correct.

Thank you for catching that.

I now think the notes on the sketches are probably wrong!

Is there a convention for this?

Does a saw blade (properly mounted on a table saw) turn CW or does it turn CCW. That depends on where you are viewing from (unless there is a convention).

When I mount a saw blade on the arbor of the Crafter's Station and turn the Crafter's Station on in the Saw Mode - hallelujah - the blade turns in the correct direction.

If I turn the Crafter's Station on in the SPT Mode, the blade turns in the opposite direction (wrong direction for a saw) which is the correct direction for the jointer and belt sander.

If I declare that I am viewing the saw blade from the headstock end of the machine (that is, the headstock is in between myself and the saw blade), the saw blade turns CW.

Applying that same convention to the Power Station, in the Saw Mode, the Crafter's Station is turning CW.

Therefore my sketches are IMPROPERLY LABELED (per that convention).

Doesn't that depend upon where the user is standing?

If standing on the left end of the Mark V and looking at the saw blade, it turns CW but if I walk to the other end of the Mark V and turn to face the saw blade I would say that it is turning CCW (from that point of view).

However, this does not defend my drawings. The drawings are incorrect from a logical and safe!

I Crafter's Station is hardly much more than a Power Station that has been equipped with a Main Table. It can be of 510 configuration or 520 configuration depending on how it gets outfitted. Significant to note that it was born a 510.

How old is that unit sir?

So its basically a dedicated table saw as you have it there? What all else can you do with it, given the motor set up?

Kind of cool. Rare?

I you have a Power Station, it can be used to do anything the Power Station does. It really is a Power Station with the ability to run the motor in forward or reverse.

It can host any SPT that the Power Station can but it can host the Main Table which a standard Power Station cannot.

If given the opportunity to purchase another one of these, I probably would. I would gladly accept any Crafter's Station hardware that anyone wanted to get rid of.

I know that not everyone agrees with me but I believe it to be a very reliable tool if used to do what it was designed for. It is a crafter's work station.

How old? I don't know exactly when they were produced. Mine was purchased new (by the original owner) in May 98. I have had it about five years. Rare? Well maybe. There were never a whole lot of them manufactured. Does that make it rare.

I think the relevant point of view with motors is when looking at the output shaft. Yes a dual end shafted motor could then be described as both simultaneously.

I really do not know the industry standard and was hoping someone would jump in and educate me!

One thing we need to mention re the crafter's station is the dual power switches and where/why.

When used as an SPT prime mover, the transmission output shaft is to the operator's right which is the same as mounting an SPT on the left end of a SS. The 'accessory' power switch is mounted on the transmission case for access from that position.

When used as a table saw, the operators position is from the rear side and a second power switch is mounted on that side of the transmission case. That switch also causes the reversing relay to be energized thus reversing the motor direction(by reversing polarity of the start winding).

Truth be told, the saw power switch is not in a very accessible location(under the table(S) in the pix above).

Since the direction is determined by the polarity of the start winding ONLY when starting(0 to low rpm), it will continue to run in whatever direction it is currently running regardless of which switch is actuated while the motor is still turning(start switch still open). An attribute shared by a Mark VII, although keys and interlocks reduce the likelyhood.

Perhaps the diagram CW/CCW reference is to the output shaft of the transmission case as viewed from that side by an operator!:);)
