None of the "engineers" could follow simple relay schematics, for some reason. They were all used to transistor controlled stuff, but not mechanical switching.

That was new kid engineers, the old engineers all knew relay logic circuits. That is what all the old tabulating machines that IBM made were. Machines like the keypunch, 519 calculator and sorter all used relay logic circuits to do all the math and decision making of the machine.
Loved to trouble shoot relay problems. When you found the problem you could also see it. Not with IC card where once you found the bad card all you knew was the problem was somewhere in one of the two thousand plus circuits in one of the 2OO IC chips on the card.

My first engineering supervisor was an old Philco/Ford guy. He had a great story on the Mercury Cougars of the late 60s. They had the Sequential turn-signals, quite a stylish feature, on the back. All that stuff was controlled electronically with Triac semiconductors.
But... at the last minute, they learned the Triacs dropped a bit too much voltage from the battery-rail to the voltages at the individual sequenced bulbs. Looked fine in operation, but didn't meet Federal regulations. The solution? Each and every car was retrofitted with a cluster of light-bulb relays. The Triacs just drove the relays instead of the bulbs. Then the bulbs had enough drive-voltage to meet the regulations.

It's going to most often be setting behind it's longer brother. I'll use it for an outfeed table for ripping. Otherwise, it'll be a DP, BS, DS, or dado (IBox) machine.

65 Tbird had a motor driven cam switch. A relay turned turned the brake lights on. Three light sequence each side. Rest position lit all three so brake lights would work(all six!)
P.S. sure they were not SCRs?
