Posted as a learning experience.

The OFT needs a handle on the edge adjacent to the SS main table. The handle on the side is useful to carry the OFT around, but the OFT needs a handle adjacent to the SS main table for purposes of mounting the OFT on the auxiliary rails. Hank

I like what you have done with the OFT. I am going to copy you idea and put a hand hold on my two tables (OFT and SCC).

So simple but so functional.

Dusty, I cannot say how pleased I am that I have given you an idea to use on your tables. Your many postings have given so much to this forum and to me. My idea is a very small payback to you, but it confirms that this forum is a terrific place to share ideas.

Hank, I just hope that everyone's ideas and contributions are accepted in the manner that they are offered. Most of my posts are "shop tested" in accordance with my own expectations. If they don't fit into someone elses' shop - so be it. They worked for me or I would not have posted them.

I do get great satisfaction out of having some of my ideas incorporated by others. That is always a bonus to me.

After a winter in the southland, I am back in Montana with my 510. I have decided to change the lower mount of my OFT because it prevents raising the table far enough to permit movement of the carriage to change the saw blade.

I intend to make the lower mount in this attachment:

I am agonizing over cutting an inch off of one of my extensions tubes. If anyone has a sacrificial extension tube and would be willing to send me a 1" section of an extension tube, please let me know.

If I do not hear from anyone, I will cut off a section from one of my extension tubes (unless someone tells me that it would not be a good idea).

Why does the 1" piece have to be from an extension tube. Any tube that will go around that insert would work. Its' only purpose is to keep the insert from splitting. I'll bet EMT would work. In fact, I use EMT for extension tubes in some applications where I want non-standard lengths. I know it will work.

I agree with Dusty. 3/4" emt should work. I would not split the 'ferrule'. Turn the bottom end of the mount to fit.

Just another thought.



Fittings for copper tubing might work just as well. The OD for 3/4" copper fittings is somewhere around .875"
