Yes it is a 49, the trunk handle tells that story, mine is a 50, also with exposed hinges. the 51 year hid the hinges,

I knew something was 'different'. We only had the 50 until 52. I do not recall the 51.

But arent the old memories GOOD one, my first cars were the Fords , I have spent my life in the auto body line of work, and now at 70 years Im getting into the wood hobby.
And Im likeing it, learn something new every day on this forum. like the older SS motor location.

Not quite.

All the pulleys are on the left side (outside) of the headstock.

That is an E model, or ER.

nice advertisement! Reminds me of my mothers old Kerby vaccuum cleaner when I was a kid. They were quit the contrapshion ! I have two 10ERS now with speed reducers. Maybe I could open a body shop?

So here is my $20 scroll saw/jig saw run off of the SS. The saw vibrates like crazy but it makes really nice fine cuts. I had to make a piece to hold the lower half of the saw blade, and add some threads to some old bolts that were laying around. And a few other things, but for $20 bucks plus another $3 for the blades I am happy.









And hopefully Photobucket gets it's business together and rotates these pictures not sure why they show up sideways here. They are right side up on their site.

Nice job. That v belt looks quite stiff though, so you might reduce vibration some (jigsaws are natural vibrators) by using a "link belt" or possibly a "notched belt" like in this photo:

Thanks for the tip about the belt. You are right about the existing belt being stiff. It doesn't like not being in an oval shape, and I the vibrations almost seem like they happen once per rotation. I have some link belt around to try so I will have to try it out
