If you tape the bottom closed don't wait too long to open the cover as I'm pretty sure there will be a surprise waiting for you....

What's not clear in the 'link' and is bugging me is was the hole done by SS, was the saw shipped with it gaping, and why was it bored where it was (which was not the most efficient position imho)?
[I guess the real question is: was that position my dumb idea or SS's dumb idea?]

{Okay, it aint the best spot, but with the GC (gaping chasm) at the bottom taped shut and the port hooked to the DCS, I gotta admit there's very little gets out to the floor etc.}

Ed, great ideas. I ran a 4 inch line from my SS dust collector then reduced it down to 2.5 at the end and it seemed to get a bit more

You keep mentioning SS DC and 4" hose in the same subject matter.

A 4" hose(with the SS DC) may increase 'dust' collection, but heavier debris will move at a slower velocity and have tendency to settle out of the air stream if it gets too slow. SS discontinued their 4" adapter for the DC 3300. Nick recommends 3" for his DC 'piping' system in the saw dust session.

This settling may reveal itself with the jointer or the planer.(i.e. heavier/bulkier debris)

Logic tells me I should've had a 'problem' such as you suggest, but I know I didn't. So (and yes I shoulda done this before I wrote) I went down to the scene of the grime and took another look.
I was Wrong. My flange sits as far down, as close to the bottom cover screw, as possible, not just under the insert as I had thot I remembered. I musta got a hole saw to make the hole, just so long ago I can't recall.
Anyhoo, I guess it was that lower position that saved me from the 'problem' noted earlier. There was somewhat more of a buildup on all the various webbing nooks and cranberries, but not enough to cause any trouble. Seems the buildup would, well, buildup just so much and then take the route to DCS as the easier. Maybe made the interior more aerodynamically smooth?
Whatever. I do remember that before I added the flange if I didn't tape that under slot shut I'd get a huge pile of 'dust' all over the leg (and ways, and cabinet, and floor, an-) but now I don't usually bother to replace the tape like after a blade change, yet very little gets by the SEEP (Sawdust Extraction & Elimination Portal). Very little. I'm running the standard 2-1/4" hose to my SS DCS.

All that biness about the upper flange position must be recollections of some conversation from the past. Probably what made me put mine where it is, which is a good thing.

Hope I didn't cause too much confusion with my rambling reminiscences.
