Has anyone installed their own outlet on their band saw? I looks like it should be a huge deal

Creating the large hole is the most difficult part.

Yes it has been done.

SS sells a DIY upgrade.

Yep, I installed the upgrade. I used a jig saw to cut the hole. It doesn't have to be completely round or look nice, the flange on the mount will cover any mistakes.

I have done the addition of a dust port using non-shopsmith parts. I'm in the process of adding a second dust collector to the bottom of the saw as it still "leaks" a lot of saw dust.

Anyway take a look here:

I just got the kit from Shopsmith to do this upgrade to my bandsaw. Have not had the time to get it done as yet, but will try to get it done soon and post some photos.

Now it's confirmed: I am thoroughly confused.
I've long ago forgotten the circumstances about my B/S dust shoot install, and seeing this doesn't help. In the "link" page is shown a flat short flange and an elbow. I know I never bought a kit. My B/S has a short flange, no elbow and MY hardware. The hole (I haven't checked to see if it is obviously home sawn) is up under the table insert et al, where normally shown. B/S bought new after '86, don't know if hole was there. I do know the vast chasm at the bottom of the housing was always there, and a curiosity to say the least.
I know that some time after, I used a flange from a set of 'accessory' kit pieces purchased to enhance the SS ShopMate DCS

What's not clear in the 'link' and is bugging me is was the hole done by SS, was the saw shipped with it gaping, and why was it bored where it was (which was not the most efficient position imho)?
[I guess the real question is: was that position my dumb idea or SS's dumb idea?]

{Okay, it aint the best spot, but with the GC (gaping chasm) at the bottom taped shut and the port hooked to the DCS, I gotta admit there's very little gets out to the floor etc.}
