JC, Fine Tool Auction House has a 4 1/2 Stanley up for auction at this December's auction. Here is the listing:

6302-081 STANLEY No 8 jointer plane. Block letter logo on cutter that was used in 1909 only some discoloration on blade and cap but no rust japanning 75prct good tote and knob. $40 - $80

Go to their Web page for details and check it out: http://www.finetooljournal.net/auction/current-auction

I have occasionally won items from them and they are good to do business with. Price is suggested, but if you bid low and no one else bids, it's yours.

I have a Lie-Nielsen 4 1/2 that my wife gave me for Christmas several years ago. They sell for $325 today, so the price range on this old Stanley isn't bad. I have a 1910 #8 and use it when I don't want to set-up my SS jointer. Awesome plane for edge jointing boards. I paid a tool collector in the area here $80 for it some years ago now, so they haven't appreciated much in price.
