Thanks for the reference. I corrected my above post for the direction the washer faces and added it to my Headstock Rebuilding Check List and will try to remember this. Looking at the headstock casing now, I can see that having the washer flat side againest the machined flat area on side of the leg does make better sense. However, I would not remove the quill feed shaft to correct the way the washer faces.

Dome faces the sleeve. Flat side faces the casting.

'Works' either way, but IMHO this way has to be 'smoother'.

I reassembled the quill feed and got it working great but the quill was still not traveling freely. I took a close look at the quill and could see two places it was rubbing. I then took 400 grit then 800 grit and finally 2000 grit sandpaper and sanded the inside of the quill feed assembly. After a few tries I waxed the quill feed and waxed the quill and it now works great.
