I think you are on to something big Dusty! Some of these sheets have adheasive sides. If you can get those magnetic sheets to adhere to the bottom of the table, then you can put rare earth magnets anywhere you want. The sheets can be easily cut with scissors to completely fill in all the sections beneath the table.

Chuck, the table doesn't have to be exactly horizontal. Simply "zero" the cube to the table top before setting the tool height.

Is the strength of a magnetic field additive? If a single layer is insufficient, will a second of third layer make the field stronger?

I found this one too. Those used to make signs for on vehicle doors sounds interesting.

We use those sheets to hang stuff on the fridge. I don't think adding sheets will aid attraction. Multiple sheets might even cancel each other.

I was thinking that rare earth magnets would adhere to the strip stuff. But if not, a strip of tin - or galvanized metal would. This should give pretty good attraction to a magnet on top of the table.

Lately, we have been using the small magnets that are part of the base of my wife's power toothbrushes. If that's worth anything. Since she uses those brushes the magnets are "free"

I would think you would get better attraction with some steel affixed under the tables. What if the tables were turned over and the compartments partially filled with a thin layer of steel shot and liquid epoxy? I would think a rare earth magnet would have a better chance of holding on to that than a magnetic sheet.

Weight might become an issue too. Think "table tilt lock". How effective is that lock? Think physical capability of the user. Just how heavy a main table can I manage.

Hmmm. I do have two or three tubes full of BBs for my Daisy Rider. Duct Tape and BBs?

I think a layer only 1 BB deep would be enough. I don't know how much weight that would add. Using some duct tape to mock it up would be a useful experiment. Of course you really need a mag switch or other rare earth magnet jig to see if it would be strong enough.

This really depends on what one is trying to accomplish. All that I was thinking about is making the main table attractive to the Wixey or Angle Cube.

What I have witnessed thus far has not been strong enough for anything like a rip fence held in place by a mag switch. However, I suspect that the field strength of a mag switch is many times stronger than what I have been tinkering with.

A fist full of nickel size rare earth magnets held in place by a shallow puddle of epoxy might work. I have, somewhere, six of those magnets. Do you think I can find them.

BTW, they will definitely align themselves but I don't know if in so doing the field strength increases or decreases. Sure wish I had paid better attention in school.

My magnetron magnet would hold that mag switch just fine. So there must be a compromise position somewhere in between the magnetron and refrigerator magnet.:rolleyes:

BBs don't work, at least mine won't. They are not magnetic]Ball bearings[/URL], maybe.
