Oh, if you have some "Jethro Gibbs" fans, they'll be out of luck. No table to rest their drinks on.

I've got 2 friends who are NCIS fans, and BOTH OF THEM "Jethro'ed" my Model 10 table. Neither of them knew what a Model 10 was, but they'd seen the episode, and STILL put their drinks on my 10ER table. (Since I've got 4 tables, I just laughed.)

(Yes, Bob, I have been "studying." But, just beer, and a LOT of it.) That's what happens late at night.

Well, it's a Model 10. I can't see enough to tell, if it is an ER, or an E. But with the parts showing, the way tubes are worth something, as is the motor and headstock, especially, if the motor runs.

However, if all you want is the way tubes, and you need to "de-rust" them, there is the "potato method."

Get a 3 or 4 inch chunk of PVC pipe, long enough to fit a way tube in it. Put the way tube in it, fill the rest with grated potatoes, and water, and put BOTH caps on. Let sit for a few days, take OUTSIDE, open it up, and clean it off. (Yes, it DOES smell!) A few minutes with a "Scotchbrite" pad, all the rust is gone.

OR, get the same PVC pipe and caps, and put a way tube in, fill it up with Evaporust, and let it sit for 24 hours. I did a couple Model 10 arbors, and they came out looking brand new, but you need to re-apply some oil, or they won't stay lookin' brand new for long. (If you want to use this method, get some 1 inch PVC pipe, with caps, to put inside the waytubes, so you don't need so much Evaporust. Also get the smallest diameter PVC that will fit your way tubes.)

Don't let those Model 10 waytubes go to waste, they haven't "printed" them since '53. ('52?)

I've already got the PVC pipe "tank" and Evaporust ready to go for the tubes. Also a freeze-plug lathe-drive adapter and a steady-rest for the 520, all ready to polish them up.

As for rigging up some of the parts as a lathe extension for my existing 10ER, I was thinking of something similar to this.

Except I seem to recall seeing cleaner designs. Didn't you do something similar?
