I have used these mounted in a multi layer etched glass picture. They have worked for a couple of years with no problem for me.

I've used LED strips from Amazon on a few projects, like these http://www.amazon.com/LEDwholesalers-30 ... wholesaler. Around $20-25 when you add a power adapter. These can be cut at the indicated spots so you can run a bunch of short strips back and forth and solder wires onto the pads to make the bends.

A few people I know have used them for under-cabinet and bookcase accent lighting and ended up using fewer than expected due to how bright they are.

I got the onyx frames made and will attach them to the cabinets hopefully today. I set a frame on one of the cabinets and put a flood light under it for a lighting test. It going to take a lot more light than I thought to get the level of illumination the boss wants. My newest theory is to use 3/16 mirror as the tray to glue the led's to. Not only will it give me more lumens with the bounce back but also I believe the glass surface will allow for better adhesion of the light strips. We will see.

Well we are all moved in and the shop has been functional for a few weeks. I have managed to get several projects finished the last two weeks. First were the onyx topped bedside stands and then the living room coffee/display table and two end tables. I also included a picture of us preparing the light panels for the onyx. All were made from alder and Honduran mahogany with Watco finish.
