From the dimensions I see, the "ears" - that go around the lower tubes, are high enough that the SS cannot roll past it. I'm thinking of changing the layout of it so there is instead basically an inverted U that drops over the tubes and then attaches to the cabinet. This way they could be disconnected and the SS rolled away, or the cabinet (I'm planning on casters). Comments?
I totally agree that if you build one, it should be built so that it can be easily detached so that the Shopsmith can be rolled away from it or it can be rolled away from the Shopsmith.
I have thought many time about building one of those cabinets and I sketched another one just last week. Whether I will ever actually build one remains to be seen.(My latest reason for scrapping the plan to build a cabinet is that I realized I am in the habit of dropping the dust hose under/behind the Shopsmith when disconnecting it and I would hate to half to walk around the Shopsmith to pick up that hose because a cabinet was preventing me from reaching underneath.
I did just built two more of the SPT carts. One for my strip sander and one for my scroll saw.
But, I digress.

I did make last year for my Shopsmith and I love it.

Mine is attached by removeable hangers. That way I can always use it as a cabinet and the only thing that shows is 2 bolt holes on each side. That link has a PDF link to how I made it. (it also seems like the same idea you have for the "ears".
For your plan you could shorten the sides and add casters to the cabinet as well. Also, instead of a door in the middle, you could go drawers. Would be a better way to go I think.

I've seen it as Mark 7 (such as in the forum header) and Mark VII. I'm assuming the same machine. Mine is the quiet one

The Mark "7" is a recent model that includes the power pro headstock and a double tilt capability.
The Mark "VII" was produced in the 1960s and also had a double tilt capability.
They are not the same.
Adding to the confusion is that the Mark VII also had a Mark 7 tag.
And The original Mark 5 became a Mark V when the 505-520 models came out.
Ya almost need a program to keep it all straight.

If its a Mark VII, what cabinet do you want? From what I understand about the VII, it has a box below for dust collection anyways, what would you want to attach? Post a picture of the machine so we can see what your asking.

Thanks for the info. Definitely a confusion point. Mine is the Power Pro Mark 7. Have wanted a Shop smith for about 30 years. Glad I finally got one. Loving it!

I really liked this cabinet set up and the ensuing discussion.
