The parts are on the left side. The guard and screws are suppose to be for the spindle guard for the attachments but unless the screws are self threading their the wrong ones or the holes are tapped incorrectly.

The only part that I could see in the standard accessories picture that uses a T-nut is the router/shaper shield. Have you assembled that, yet? I believe most people leave the shaft guard off.

Thanks Mike,

No I haven't assembled that yet and left that in the box it came in. I guess that's why I expected to be used on something I've already dealt with. Guess I need to finish checking out all the stuff and assembly it as if I were going to use it now.

Don't have the Mark 7 myself, but I think the t-nut which fits in the table slots may be to hold the router/shaper shield. The other item goes over the upper and lower aux. spindles.

The grey plastic part is a 'safety shield' that covers the rear shafts on the headstock. A recent 'embellishment'. I assume the two screws and washers are for mounting it. You may need to drill holes for them. IIWM, they would go into the 'excess' parts box.(shield included)

The t-nut is as you described. I have no idea what the screws etc. are for.

The piece laying on the table to the right of the miter slot is a safety device. It mounts on the end of the headstock and cover the drive shafts.

The t-nut and the parts grouped with it are an interesting combo but I don't know what for. You can never have enough t-nuts though.

Thanks for the replies.

I should have edited my post and say I knew the plastic piece was the guard but reading the instructions to mount it had me concerned. They mention easily screwing them in but not to tighten fully until centered. I mean it doesn't take a genius to figure that out but the screws don't screw in easily. They start OK but are either the wrong screws, self threading screws, or the holes aren't tapped properly (back to wrong screws I guess). I didn't want to force them if wrong and of course I get these things, or around to working on them, usually after the support line closes.

If it wasn't for the old video on installing the lift assist I think I'd still be scratching something! I think once I start using the M7 I'll settle down and get a bit more comfortable. SS has a great reputation among it's followers. I've never heard a bad thing said about them from the few owners I've seen over the years. Of course I guess the one's that didn't like them sent them back or sold them. No way that's happening here. I've got too much time putting this puppy together!

That looks like the shaft guard to put over the shafts on the left side when your not using them.

Yeh, another example of OSHA and the lawyers going overboard. I have considered taking it off my PP headstock. Just haven't got around to it yet.
