I often show pics of outstanding forum projects to my wife. Not those boxes, though ... my honey-do list is way too long already! But I'll salt that idea away for a surprise gift someday.

As for the plane, making one like that has now been officially added to my own bucket list.

As for the plane, making one like that has now been officially added to my own bucket list.

Heat treating the blade is the cool part of the project. I had never tried anything like that, but using MAPP gas took only a couple of minutes to get about 1" of the blade cherry red, before quenching in oil.

It is only 4-hours from central Ohio to Charlotte Michigan to take John's class. A Friday morning drive north and a Sunday drive home - piece of cake. There were four of us in the class, one was a woman and her husband joined her to watch (no charge). You could take your wife along (or not).

I'd love that! And my wife, a craft-making sort, would enjoy the box-making class. But can I tear her away from our sixteen-year old twins (with the ink barely dry on their driver's licenses) for a weekend? Only three more years until they are in college ...

I appear to be a little late with this, but in no way does that discount my appreciation of your plane. Your great workmanship is very apparent. I'm sure you will have a very productive future with this tool.

Sure - you went to a school with a accomplished teacher, but it takes a dedicated student to do work like this. Congratulations!

Now to your Shaker boxes; After seeing yours, my envy is showing. Nice work!! These have been on my to do list for a long time and only lazyness has prevented doing. Hopefully, your impetus will spur me to get going.
