Just a quick update. First, I found out that it is a 1985 model (S#207352). Second, I did as everyone suggested by manually turning the sander and then letting everything click into place. I then oiled as shown on another post here and plugged it it. I crossed my fingers and it started right up with no problems at all. THANK YOU EVERYONE. Next is replacing the parts that are missing. I want do not have the drill head since what was on it was the table saw and the drill head part is now gone. I also want to get the pieces that are needed for turning. I have the "A" tail piece but I do not have the tool rest or tool arm. Are there any other pieces that are needed for turning on the Shopsmith?

In the middle of the page at http://shopsmith.com/getting_started/lathe.htm you'll see a set of red buttons (Model 500, 505, 510, 520, MARK 7). Click on the one that matches your machine, and a page will come up showing the components needed to get started with turning.

Admin, if you select the 510 model on the page that you reference, the illustrations show the correct parts, but the intro paragraphs says "The components shown below are the items you'll need for the horizontal boring function." (emphasis added)

Methinks that has been 'fixed' - works now.
