I have a couple of older Help Kits, and they both came with a tapered screw for the miter gauge, but the current version doesn't seem to include one.

If you have an older kit check for the tapered screw.

The current version of the Help Kit has changed very little and does not (as already stated) contain a tapered set screw. The help kit does, however, now contain MinWax rather than Johnsons Paste Wax. Dropping JPW is, IMO, a big mistake.

Is there anything in the Help Kit that cannot be purchased at the Big Box (other than the manual).

Off subject but I find it interesting that we have adopted Johnson's wax as our standard. Shopsmith has not. I know of 4 waxes they have sold over the years that I know about, that being 1976 to today. They all seem to have worked well.

Yes, they may all work well but I'll never know that for sure. I have stocked up on JPW. I have more on hand right now than I have used in the lifetime of my Shopsmith. In addition, I have an almost unused can of Trewax which I think came in the one Help Kit that I purchased.

I found it 'interesting' that SS said 'Furniture paste wax' somewhere recently. I do not remember where!

Maybe it was here - but this is not new.

No it was not there, but I now better understand 'it' thanks to your posting that.

I never knew there was PASTE furniture wax.

Guess I have led a sheltered life!


So the key word is 'paste' not 'floor' nor 'furniture'.

A better key word may be carnuba. Any one tried shoe polish?

If getting floor paste wax avoid the ones with a no slip formulation, good on floors not so much on machinery that needs to slide.

I am not sure "non slip formulation" is relevant in this application. When I bought my SS new in 1994 it came with a can of Trewax paste floor wax. It did then and does now have a non slip formulation. I have been using it ever since and not had any problem. It works just fine.

I think the most relevant issue is as JPG said you want a Carnauba wax.
