Color me impressed! I've not seen anything made out of buckeye-burl before and I really like it, and the scoop turned out really well. Something else to add to my long list of things I'd like to do.

Very nice work. Hopefully the oak insert will help it hold up to the hard frozen ice cream.

Dennis that is a beautiful turning. I too have never seen a buckeye burl. Georgeous !

I truly appreciate all the kind words, guys. But I have to give most of the credit to the buckeye burl wood. As you can see, the cherry handle was OK, but definitely doesn't have the same "Wow factor". The good news is that the stuff isn't all that expensive. My cost on eBay was between $15 and $20 per blank. And since I bought them all from the same auction, the seller combined shipping and I only had to pay for one package.
The seller was
AppalachianBlankSlabCo, and they have 100% positive feedback. I just checked, and they have some more nice buckeye burl blanks for sale right now. Islewoods (also on eBay) usually has some as well, but the shipping from Hawaii does add to the cost.
A very different way to spread "Buckeye fever", huh?

Actually I was going to say that the Cherry handle was my favorite ....
Dude that is like saying that the slow boat looked good because of the epoxy. Your handle didn't just appear, you made it, quite well I might add ....
I was going to PM you to ask whether Buckeye was just laying around everywhere in Ohio, or just where did you find that. I just looked at his ebay site. He has some beautiful wood, of a LOT of species. Thanks for the link!
Edit: I was joking about the cherry handle .....
