The title of this thread is Pro Planer. So he made an oops in his reply. I doubt that he bought it without turning it on. I certainly would not. Motors are very robust. I have 5 10ERs here that are over 60 years old and all the motors run. Yes motors do fail but how often. It would be interesting if Bill Mayo would chime in with the number of completely bad motors (non repairable) he has seen in all the years he has bee repairing SS equipment.

I'd be more worried about the control box. We have had discussions about that on several occasions. If you have to replace one it is big bucks. Yes sometime it is those little things that bite you. The other problem with planners that has come up is if they have not been packed well for shipment they can be damaged. Factory shipment is not the issue but people selling them might not pack them well enough. A factor in pre-owned tools.

With any luck there will be no big issues and life will go on, if not we will hear about it here I'm sure.

We have professional planer and power pro is there a difference or a terminology difference?

Cast iron top is pro planer, if that's iron and it's missing a 1 3/4 hp motor or feed motor or control box, etc... It's a Franken planer.

If it is an aluminum top, consider it a mark v planer with a sticker that says pro

It seems there is a fad going around that calling something 'PRO' is advantageous when trying to sell it to 'amateurs'.

So we have the 'pro fence', the 'professional planer', the power pro headstock and lord knows what else.

It only makes a difference when that 'pro' thingy is different from a 'lesser' thingy(different model). In the case of the ss planer, it matters! The table is different, and the feed motor/controller are different.

Pro planer, a stand alone planer with entirely different cutting rate and cast table. Cannot be attached to mark v.

Power pro - new headstock standard on new mark 7. Electronically controlled. Only mcguiver would find a way to attach it to a stand for planning. A nice $3000 Franken planer. So it's not a power pro planer lol.

I am just going to call it a Pro Power, Power, directed by a Professional!!!!!

yes sorry, table top. Aluminum table = Mark V mounted, Cast = Pro Planer
