Purchased my very own Shopsmith Mark 5

Not to my knowledge, if it had one it would be in an obvious area, to reset it.

Per Jacob Anderson's videos, none of the ShopSmith Mark V motors have thermal shut off switches or breakers.

I found a post that may work for me as far as wiring.

As far as the actual picture colors, they match what I have. As far as the diagram, they do not. (Unless I'm going color blind or am seeing a golden dress when in reality it is blue. )

At any rate, I'm going to wire it as per pictures and cross my fingers. Thanx to all who helped out.

One last question though, does this motor have a thermal cut-off switch. I'm guessing it does not.

Red, Green, Yellow.

With age.

Originally Red, Black, White. Red is the start winding lead for sure.

So referencing the last diagram , Red(red) = Brown, White(yellow) = Yellow, Black(green) = Black.

Never a thermal cutout/link.

Thanx to all who helped out. On my workbench, the motor is working w/o any issues.

Here's what I did.

Red(originally Red) aka "Start" connected to Relay Pin 2.
Yellow(originally White) aka "Common" connected to L1 and Relay Pin 5.
Green(originally Black) aka "Run" connected to L2 and Capacitor.

Additionally, I connected the capacitor to Relay Pin 1.

When I energize the circuit, she spins like a top.

Now I just have to mount it back up and I have myself and nice working Mark 5 for a mere $150 buckaroos. I call that a win.

Looks like I'm not out of the woods just yet. I counted my chickens too early. I finally mounted the motor and wired it up. When I turn it on, it spins right up. However, when I put the belt on it and turn it on, it just hums loudly.

I unplugged it and attempted to move the spin the headstock by hand and it appears to bind.

Is this normal. I will remove belt and try to see if i can spin it freely, what should I expect. Free spin? Or some resistance?

Sounds like you may have the same kind of problem I have. Without the belt on the pulleys(sheaves), you should be able to spin the headstock(quill) freely.

If set to slow, there is considerable resistance to manually turning the quill. Turning the motor shaft should be easy.
