I saw the badge listed tonight. Although a good price, like JPG said it had been "ripped" off so I passed. It would look sloppy compared with the rest of the work im going to do to her. I've got time so I can wait for the right one

Good move Tyler. Once your finished with the resto, You wouldn't want someone thinking you ripped the badge off!

Patience is key here. Another one will eventually come up for sale.

I have to say, It really gets me as to how some folks treat the machines which in most cases have been purchased just to part it out however, They don't care how they dismantle them.

I must say I am quite upset it is missing its badge. I love to know the history of anything I buy or see and I will never know when this young lady was born or anything at all about it since the seller is ridding an estate. I do know that some guy was way more interested in electrical work than woodworking though. I'll just have to give her a new identity and birthday.

Without the badge which has the Serial # on it, you mght never know, without some family hestury. So lets call her Jane Doe. Some of the really good ER guys can put some what of a time frame on her with pics of the fence, support table, you look at any details on the motor tag also. who made the motor? GE or AO Smith? What color is the motor? silver/light grey, it might be an E. Is the tail stock cast aluminum or cast iron?

It's a later model ER. All 10Es and early model ERs have the double wedge lock on the quill. On the right side of the headstock, you can see the 3/8" threaded hole just above the quill feed pinion shaft.

Also, Jane Doe most likely only has 1 wedge lock for the way tube lock. Also, in the pictures, it appears to have the 2 bolt cast iron head rest instead of the 4 bolt aluminum or iron head rest.

Can't see enough in the pictures however, the tail stock base plate appears to be the squared off plate rather than the rounded plate.

Can you show us more pictures of the table carriage(bottom side). As production of the model 10 was winding down, the castings were being made thinner. Some more pictures of the base plate can help too.

Im going to be picking Jane Doe up on Tuesday or Wednesday so as soon as I'll get it home I'll take more in depth pictures. I don't remember off hand who made the motor or what stuff was made out of. We did a lot more talking than I did looking at her. I already knew I was going to buy it so I figured I would give him some insight into what he's selling. When I get her home I'll be able to give the answers on the different clues that you've listed.
