BTW, is that Shopsmith repair shop in down town Lancaster, still in business? Used to buy Greenlee tools there. Sent my MKV motor to them for a refurb several years ago.
No such repair shop that I know of. Those pix were from the 70's. My son got a Poloroid camera for Christmas. He loved to use it! He had to take the photo from the camera, put it in a folding metal plate and put it in his arm pit to get the pix to develop. It was all fun, but long ago!

My mistake, Charles. Not Lancaster but Whittier. Battles Hardware. CRSstrikes again, I guess.

Google says it is still there. This is on their tool repair page.

"We have experience in fixing a wide variety of tools. Our power tool repair service has long set Battels apart from other hardware stores not just in Whittier, but in the greater Los Angeles area. We specialize in repairing Shopsmith equipment."

Yes, Battles is still there.
Because of your earlier post (thanks) I found a vendor of Greenlee tools here in Lancaster. I had never been aware of Greenlee tools before. I'll have to go see them one of these days and see what's up. Maybe CS, but maybe more.

While on the subject of winter. When I grew up there were once almost no snowmobiles around. When I came home on leave from the Army my uncle across the street came over to see me and offered the use of the brand new one he had just gotten. So that was my first experience, and by the time I got back home in winter about a year and a half later almost everyone had one.

Local races, and machines that had advanced many times over the basic machine my uncle had gotten. I couldn't believe it! The one he had would go flat out at about 45 or so mph, the ones they were racing were clocking in at about a 100 mph. I have no idea how fast they are now but I'd guess there is some terminal speed that would be hard to get over.

What really seemed strange was that the lakes we use to ice fish on use to have cars and pickups parked around were all but gone. Just like that everyone changed to snowmobiles. Some time later you began to see the cars and trucks return, I'm thinking being in a heated car was more conformable then the snowmobile.

Here is a picture from my brother of what the lakes look like now, its a highway of packed trails. I understand ice fishing had gone out of favor, maybe too much noise so you can't hear your TV in the ice shack anymore....

Up in northern WI and the UP of MI they have trails for attracting tourists. People go out all hours of the night and go bar hopping, yea that sounds like a good idea. Anyway the house we had up there was about 2 blocks away from one of those trails, pretty noisy at all hours of the night, can imagine how the houses that were closer coped. Lot of locals are not happy about this, it was OK when they were using them but not so much the out-of-towners coming in and doing so.

Here is a web cam in Hurley WI and you might or might not see much action depending on when you look.

Gene, why does a guy who HATES snow, live in SnowFlake?
(Sorry, had to do that, since I'm related to the Flakes.)

Gene, want some MORE misery? Senator Flake's
son's mother in law, (sorry, drawn out, guys)
entered the Maricopa County Jail, for KILLING
23 dogs, right next door to Jeffy Flake's cousin,
and my brother (has 2 Model 10s in his shop) Sterling.

Google the Gilbert 23, and you'll see the shrine in his
yard.

That's easy. In '97, land was cheap. Bought 80 acres 16 miles east of town for $11k. Good jobs, good people and, above all, it's quiet and peaceful. Life is good.
