Hmmmm.

A hospital charges high so everyone needs insurance to pay and in the process makes more profit.

Insurance firms need to charge more for insurance to cover paying those high charges(and channeling more to profit).

A lesson in logic - what is the logical conclusion?

Tends to be a bit 'circular'.

Also the hospital charges Medicare far less than the 'going rate'. I doubt they are losing anything other than gross profit by doing so(chose your definition of gross).

Hope to stay 'out'.

I have very slow through put but that is a problem with my ISP (Century Link). When I type an E-Mail I can type three or four words and nothing appears on my screen. After a 5 or 10 second wait the words come up 2 or 3 letters at a time. Sometimes the reaction time is so long that I start to retype and then doubles of what I type. If I could get a different ISP I would but am locked in with TV, phone and internet.

Speaking of hospital stays, one of my brothers was feeling dizzy and finally when to the hospital, spent two days and racked up a $30K bill and they never did figure out what was up. He's feeling better but they want him to go to another place for more tests........ not sure he needs it.

If it were not for insurance I know I'd be in the poor house with the couple of things I've had to have done.

You could look at this way without insurance none of could pay those horrendous hospital bills. It would be useless to charge that much so they would charge a lot less. Or at least cheaper ways to do things.
I compared the cost of my birth $18 to the cost of my Great Grandson $8500 and say wow!
I think the actual doctor bill was $3 bucks with $15 going to the hospital. Back then they kept moms about 3 days. My granddaughtered went in at about 6 delivered at about 8 pm and was home the next day by lunch. So her bill was for less than a full day.
Back then, Ed, the janitor was paid a meager amount when compared to today. The availability of an XRay device was limited. You often waited until one became available. Three weeks ago, they rolled one (along with an EFG) into my ER room about 30 minutes after I checked in.

By the time I had been there three hours, the doctor had come back in and reported heart good, valves all working as intended, blood pressure and oxygen levels (in the blood) OK, kidney and liver functions OK, lungs OKAY (no pneumonia), full blood panel shows some anemia but minimal, no diabetes -

I just feel like s?"+. Must be a virile. Can't do anything to fight it. Go home and ride it out. I forgot to mention - ECHO scheduled for tomorrow. Only two of those machines in the clinic. Had to wait my turn.

The Medicare Bill - well, Medicare paid what they are going to pay last Friday. Now I wait to see what filters down to me. Probably nothing. Got good secondary insurance (cost $62.30/mo).

It is all perfectly normal to reflect ole the good ole days but don't make decisions today based n those comparisons. The times - they are a changing.

You don't have Tricare for life? You do but if you don't tell the hospital they won't know. With Tricare for life no need to pay for a supplement. Tricare is free.

You are so correct. The $62.30 monthly is not for medical but rather my dental. But I do have Tricare for Life. Tricare pays (normally) for what Medicare does not pay.

I must say, you do an excellent job of checking my posts for errors.

Well, when it is something I know about it piques my interest. Trust me, I don't read your posts any more critically than anyone elses. :)

Here is what I have found about Tricare for life. Back before you had Medicare and were on Tricare Prime or Basic, Tricare was secondary if you had any other private insurance. Now that I am on Medicare and Tricare for life it seems that Tricare pays first. I don't get a statement of benefits from Tricare any more but I do get one from Medicare. Medicare pays almost nothing in every case so apparently Tricare pays first. I guess since both coverage's are government funded it doesn't matter

As for dental, my wife and I have the basic coverage through Tricare with Delta Dental. It is $25.31 for both of us. They do have expanded plans for more money. Maybe that is what you have. Now that we are older I am going to look into expanded coverage with Tricare.

As I sit here looking at each of our SSA 1099-SMs, I see that my contributions to Medicare Part B Premiums are $1258.80. I suspect that the differences are because we retired from Government Service at different times and at different ages. No matter what, I am very, very thankful for the coverage that I have and have absolutely no complaint about what it costs me.

I have eight younger folks that I help prepare taxes for and I can see what all of this is costing them.
I don't think different retirement times and age impact Tricare.

I absolutely agree Dusty. Between me and my wife (35 years civil service retired in the Army and AF doing maintenance for the military) we get 5 retirement checks all from the US Treasury. I am very grateful.

All I am saying is there are different amounts of coverage for different prices and it is selectable. It is not set in stone. Check out their web site or call them and see what your coverage includes. Maybe you don't need all that you are paying for.

Just dont pay them, by the time they catch up with you you are dead, they cant touch your left overs.
Example 5 years ago, my dad died, mom is still alive, I am now taking care of her, all things were separate. Checking accounts, charge cards ect. Dad rang up about 80K$ on Charge accounts, moms name were not on them, he died, they haunted her for payment on them, my son and BIL are Sharks, no way she is resomsible for them. Answered the phone, asked them was mom a card holder also, they said no, said then I think you are barking up the wrong tree, they asked for a copy of dads death certificate, no more phone calls.
Just charge it up, and no other on the card, let them suck it up at 18% interest.
Thats what I did back in the late 80s, they gave them out like candy, I said I owned my own house, had no car loan, which I did not, and threw in $90+K income, Boom, charge card 50K$ limit, I had 3, over a few years maxed them out and for about $350 in Shark fees to file bankruptcy all gone!!!
Same in back taxes feds, with interest owed 76K$, I did an Offer in Compromise, payed $1001.00 on it, Freaken nephew said, WTF was the extra dollar for??? Some one at the IRS saying I got more then the original plan/scale.
I dont agree, but some how it got implaced and if you know it, use it, the really wealthy do. which I dont have a problem with, use the law to your advantage, if you dont know it your loss!!!!!

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)
