Thanks, Ron and Paul! My headstock doesn't have such a spring. My nameplate swings on an aluminum pin at the top (part #46A) to open and screws in on the bottom to close. Completely forgot about the spring held nameplate on the older headstocks.

Ok so the missing clip was not fun to retrieve. I had to remove the headstock and turn it upside down and then it fell into view and was retrieved. I tried removing the motor pan but still couldn't find it. So a little JB Weld and all is back to normal !
