Some more photos...

Another picture of the two pulleys. The new pulley is solid aluminum, so it was easy to machine, and it is much beefier.

This morning I got the new bushings in the scroll saw (after trimming the flange down on the lathe) and it's very close to working perfectly now. Did a couple of test cuts, no problem. I am still waiting for 3 new main shafts - 2 for the arms and one is the spacer in the middle - because two of them are badly worn. Once those are installed, I believe I will have a fully functional, good-as-new scroll saw! I even got the new quick tensioner installed (which replaces the knob at the back) but I may order a new tensioner shaft because the top is quite badly threaded. But all in all, making huge progress. I'm waiting on a couple of eccentric posts so I can mount it on the shopsmith (I'll keep the motorized function, I just don't have a dedicated table for it.) I also think I am going to replace most of the air hose with 1/4 copper line because it gets squashed in several places. Anyway, just reporting progress!

Well, I should have bought a decent one, not a cheap one on craigslist that the guy severely misrepresented. However, I think once I have the main shafts in place, it will be 100% good as new. I have spent as much buying parts from Shopsmith and off ebay as I would have paid to get a fully functioning one. Live and learn - but at least this way, once I'm done I KNOW I won't have problems

If you are only using the spt mounting posts so as to store the scroll saw, you do NOT need the 'offset' posts. Straight ones will do(you do not need the off setting capability).

Perhaps someone here has a pair that they do not need.

You are correct. However, I picked up a pair from a friend on another forum, so I am all set now

Hello tusconguy, I am going to try your method of repairing my scroll saw (same problem with the notched pulley, bore is out of round). Do you remember the Grainger part number of the pulley you ordered and the shaft as well? That would be a big help to me! I tried to bore the pulley on my lathe and install a steel sleeve but there was not enough metal to securely hold the sleeve! Thank you, Ted Hussey (Tinnocker)

Hey Ted, just saw this. If you search on "scroll saw refurb" you should find the part number somewhere... if I come across it I'll post it. I definitely posted it at some point on the forum here...
